De-moulding Robot & Insert Unit

The scope of the project was to install a bespoke robot unloading arm to a moulding machine, to interface it to remove 4 imp components and place on a automated fixture to insert a brass threaded insert.

We designed and built the assembly to be fixed to the side of the moulding machine and a vibrating bowl to present a single brass insert to a loading position and the a pick and place unit to load 4 separate pressing stations within 30 seconds. The cycle time of the mould was 40 seconds.

At each moulding cycle the robot would place the moulding over the pressing stations and then an air hydraulic ram would press the components together, the robot then would come back in and pick up the completed part and deposit down a chute for collection.
